Hazard and Risk Assessments

A number of systems and tools are used to identify, assess and control risk.

  • The Hazard and Risk Assessment process breaks the jobs down into tasks that are then rated according to the probability and severity of risk to personnel, assets, the environment, and/or the company's reputation using a standard Risk Assessment chart. The level of risk calculated for each job determines the means of communication that are used to advise personnel associated with the job of the hazards and necessary controls.
  • Control guidelines are also provided for the use of personal protective equipment and the implementation of control system including Hazard Communication, Permit-to-Work, Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory Protection, Hearing Protection, Bloodborne Pathogens, Lead Abatement, Asbestos Management, Radiation Protection, Pollution Prevention/Waste Minimization, Rigging, Scaffolding, Electrical, Short Service Employee, and Food Preparation
  • Hazard Identification Study?s (HAZID) is one of the system tools used to performed non-routine medium and high risk jobs. This process is intended to ensure that hazards are identified so that appropriate controls can be implemented to reduce potential risk of loss to personnel, operations, the environment, and the company / customer reputation to as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP). This process of hazard and risk assessment is used to identify the hazards and potential effects associated with construction activities, critical lifts, pre-commissioning and hook-up, facility equipment maintenance, and emergency response.
  • Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) s are applied to design Operations functions where the requirement to conduct any of these Safety verification exercises is deemed necessary.
  • Another system tool for performing hazard and risk assessments for tasks associated with daily jobs that have the potential for loss to personnel, assets, and the environment is the Task Risk Assessment (TRA).
