Employee Participation
Behavior Based Safety Management
JRM has implemented a Behavioral Based Safety Management
system that is fully supported by management, but employee
driven using the following foundation principals:
- Identify critical behaviors from incident, near miss and
dispensary reports
- Gather data by field observation
- Give feedback on performance following an observation
- Remove any barriers that prevent safe behavior through
action planning
Hazard and Suggestion Reporting
A "Right-to-Refuse Unsafe Work" policy is fully
supported for all employees, contractors, vendors, and customers.
A system is implemented for all personnel to report hazardous
or unsafe work conditions and/or offer suggestions on improving
the HSES system through the use of a STEP/STOP Card System.
HSES Councils and Meetings
Workers/craftsmen are also directly involved
in the safety program through:
- Daily pre-shift Toolbox Meetings
- Monthly Safety Councils chaired by the Division Managers
- Participation from all employee levels including management,
supervisors, field hourly employees, customers, and subcontractors
Communication of HSES Information
Employees are also made aware of any new or
changes to HSES related information through issuance of polices
and procedures, JSA's, HAZIDs, guidance information, tool-box
meetings, training classes, safety alerts, signs, labels,
etc.
Awards and Recognition
An employee award and recognition program (Presidents
Award) that recognizes employees for achieved HSES efforts
and accomplishments has been established to foster employee
involvement. These awards are not used as an incentive for
safety performance, but rather a show of appreciation for
HSES achievements and to promote the company's commitment
to HSES excellence. Awards and recognition are administered
through a committee made up of managers, field supervisors
and field employees.
