Local Area Network (LAN)
JRME's offices in Houston are wired with Category 5 twisted-pair
cabling certified to existing Category 5 testing standards. This
office has 2 x Category 5 ports that are connected to matching ports
in 1 of 4 wiring closets. Cisco switches provide 10/100 Mb access
capabilities. The switches are integrated into several network segments
via a Cisco 7010 series router.

Wide Area Networks (WANs)
JRME's offices in Houston are connected to other McDermott offices
around the world via frame relay technology provided and maintained
by AT&T via an infrastructure of Cisco routers. Related network
software controls access to these networks.

Telephones
JRME's PBX is a Northern Telecom Meridian Option 81C. JRME has
standardized on the Meridian 2616 digital telephone set. The 2616
is a 16-button digital set which supports optional displays, data
ports, and add-on modules.
A Meridian Mail voice mail system is currently installed in JRME's
offices and is used extensively to maximize the effectiveness of
our voice communications systems and to minimize the number of office
support personnel.

Local Telecommunications Access
Fiber optic cable and digital T1 circuits link JRME to local telecommunications
services. The primary circuits are backed up with redundant loop
services via Southwestern Bell. These services offer protection
from local outages.

Electronic Mail
JRME has used electronic mail to increase the effectiveness of
its communications for over 10 years. The electronic mail system
is linked to many other public and private electronic mail systems.
The majority of McDermott's linkages are accomplished with the use
of Microsoft Exchange gateways. In Houston, JRME uses Microsoft's
Outlook/Exchange email system.

Groupware
JRME utilizes Lotus Notes to enable users to share information
using a series of databases. Searches can be performed on these
databases, thus reducing the time it takes to find the information
needed.

Fax
JRME has standardized facsimile equipment and has aggressive pricing
arrangements with the chosen manufacturer. Numerous project and
departmental machines are located throughout the facility, and a
central, manned fax location provides general access to the company.

Videoconferencing
JRME has a VTEL TC2000 video-conferencing system that supports
point-to-point, standards-based video teleconferencing via ISDN
circuits.
McDermott offices in Houston, Morgan City, and London have dial-up
capabilities with speeds ranging from 64 kbps to 384 kbps. These
systems provide high-quality video teleconferencing on short notice.
Multi-point conferences (more than 2 sites) can be set up via AT&T.

Dial-in Data Access
JRME is equipped to permit remote dial-in access to the office.
A Shiva LanRover is utilized and supports AppleTalk, IP, and IPX
protocols. A switch to AT&T's VPNS or AGNS is scheduled for
the near future.

Communications with Other McDermott
Offices
Voice and data communications between Houston and other McDermott
locations are carried over McDermott's Automated Voice Network (AVN).
This network is provided by AT&T. Houston has dedicated access
via a full TI to AT&T.
Data communications between Houston and other McDermott locations
is handled by a frame-relay network. AT&T is the carrier for
frame-relay network. It provides 384 kbps of dedicated bandwidth.
Electronic mail between Houston and other McDermott locations is
carried over the McDermott electronic mail network. File server
access and data transfers are handled by the frame-relay network.
CADD drawings and databases are transferred using FTP services and
between Novell file servers using the frame-relay network.
