McDermott Caspian Contractors, Inc., the Caspian operating subsidiary of J. Ray McDermott, S.A. (J. Ray), has become the first J. Ray company business unit worldwide to be certified in the three major ISO and OHSAS standards. The certifications were awarded by Bureau Veritas audit group (BVQI), who carried out an initial audit in September, with final certification in October 2005. During the audit, BVQI closely examined the company's Integrated Management System through work practice assessments, document verification and one-on-one interviews. "The Integrated Management System incorporates quality, health, safety and environmental controls for our operations in the Caspian," said Dan Houser, Vice President & General Manager, Caspian operations. "These certifications recognize that we have established and implemented world-class systems, procedures and standards for both onshore and offshore engineering and construction activities in the Caspian." According to the audit results, the company successfully satisfied the requirements of ISO 9001:2000 (Quality Management Systems), ISO 14001:2004 (Environmental Management Systems) and OHSAS 18001:99 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems). The approved audit scope includes fabrication, construction, installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning of offshore structures, subsea pipelines, and project management as well as marine vessel management and ship repair. "These awards will further reinforce customer confidence in our services, with the knowledge that we have in place systems not only for control, but also for identifying and rectifying deficiencies in our work methods; and that we actively take steps to improve our performance," continued Houser. "It also proves that we have skilled and qualified personnel dedicated to productivity, quality and safety, and I'd like to thank everyone in our Caspian team who contributed to this significant achievement."
Background Information: McDermott Caspian Contractors Inc. is the Caspian operating entity, and wholly owned subsidiary, of J. Ray McDermott, S.A. The company provides products, services and creative solutions to the offshore oil and gas industry. These services include, but are not limited to, engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction and project management, offshore pipelay and marine construction. Under contracts to AIOC, McDermott Caspian Contractors Inc. is fabricating integrated decks and installing subsea pipelines for Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3 development of AIOC's Azeri, Chirag and deepwater portion of the Gunashli fields (ACG) in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea. The company has been also awarded a prestigious contract by BP Shah Deniz Exploration Ltd. (BPSD) for engineering, procurement, fabrication, pre-trenching, offshore installation and pre-commissioning of three 92km long offshore pipelines, from the Shah Deniz Alpha platform to Sangachal onshore terminal. McDermott Caspian Contractors Inc. has established constructive working relationships with SOCAR and its subsidiaries Baku Deep Water Jacket Factory (BDJF) and the Caspian Sea Oil Fleet (CSOF). As part of its topsides fabrication contracts with AIOC, the company executed a comprehensive upgrade program of the BDJF facilities and established a full project infrastructure at the BDJF yard. J. Ray McDermott, S.A. provides turnkey project management, including design, fabrication, transportation and installation of marine structures and pipelines, for development drilling and production, and subsea production systems, using in-house resources for every market.
