Description:

  • Phase I consists of modifying the Molikpaq to a drilling, production and quarters facility. The oil produced will be transferred to a moored floating, storage and offloading tanker (FSO) for offloading to buyer tankers. The gas produced in association with the oil will be injected into the reservoir. The use of an FSO will restrict the oil production period to the ice free season, currently believed to be 180 - 200 days per year.

Scope:

  • Reimbursable contract with JRM being responsible for engineering and procurement activities for the Piltun-Astokhskoye Field Platform “A” (Molikpaq) conversion and refurbishment.

Innovations:

  • Fast track design/fabrication to achieve first oil in 1999
  • First platform to be installed offshore Sakhalin Island, Russia
  • Functional specifications utilized for equipment purchases

  • Cold climate engineering required
  • Severe environmental conditions, including waves, earthquakes and sea ice
