Typical Project Organization

JRME executes project management by assigning a dedicated project manager and a totally integrated team to the project. The key to the success of the team is the appointment of an experienced project manager, who is directly accountable to the customer for the execution of the project and has the necessary management skills and authority to control all facets of the job. The project team, as a whole, has the following goals:

  • Set up the optimum organization for the project and carry out the work in the most effective manner and location.
  • Modify the organization as the project needs change
  • Simplify communications for rapid and effective response
  • Provide continuity of supervision throughout the project
  • Provide competent, experienced personnel to execute and control the work
  • Maintain tight control over quality, cost, and schedule to meet project needs
  • Ensure customer satisfaction with project execution

Overall Organization

The project execution organization may be a task force or an open project team. For most projects, a task-force approach is employed. The project team is a multidisciplinary team of appropriately experienced specialists, including support personnel. Full authority for the successful execution of the project is the responsibility of the project manager.

Projects of larger magnitude may require a dedicated project task force whose project manager and coordinator synchronize the assignment of discipline personnel to the project from their functional departments in accordance with the schedule requirements of the customer.

Discipline engineers have close contact with their functional department managers for administrative purposes and technical guidance. Upon assignment to the project and throughout project execution, personnel report to the project manager for all matters connected with the project. Personnel are assigned to projects, as needed, from the following functional departments:

  • Project management
  • Engineering
  • Design/drafting
  • Project services
  • Procurement
